Brief Description:

The phased internal refurbishment of the Town Hall with Grade II * listed interiors and external elevations. English heritage were closely involved with the project along with the Council’s Senior Conservation Officer Darren Barker. The work included major structural alterations to provide new spaces, radical redesign of existing rooms for alternative uses , a new atrium formed within the central lightwell with a glass lift and roof, complete renewal of all mechanical, electrical and data installations. Approximately 60 tonnes of asbestos contaminated materials were remove from the building which remained occupied by staff for the duration of the work
